Odessa Fire Chief Scott Brown arrived shortly after dispatch with fire showing from the residence, adding additional companies under the working alarm dispatch. Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder of Newark was alerted for the RIT, and Cecil County Maryland Chesapeake City was alerted for a tanker to respond. Initial crews put a quick knock down and stop to the fire and began searching the residence for victims, which one was quickly located.

Fire delartment personnel from Odessa remained on scene for several hours assisting the Delaware State Fire Marshal's office with their investigation.
