Pesticide Exposure - Redding Middle School
Friday, September 4, 2015
At 8:35 this morning New Castle County Emergency Communications alerted the VHC for an inside odor. Units were advised that the odor was of a commercial pesticide that had been sprayed by building maintenance in the area of the ventilation system for the school. Units arrived to find the smell of the pesticide throughout the structure and ordered that it be evacuated. The school district arranged to have the students moved off site, while two subjects were transported to Christiana Hospital for further evaluation. Crews worked to ventilate the structure for over two and a half hours. Once all the students were relocated the scene was placed under control and turned over to district maintenance for further ventilation.
VHC Units Responding: Rescue 27, Tower 27 and Ambulance B-1.
Odessa Ambulance A-24 and NCC Paramedic Unit 9 also assisted.
