Trench Collapse - In the area of Spring Arbor Drive and Garden Gate Drive
Friday, September 4, 2015
Shortly before noon this date the New Castle County Fireboard alerted the VHC, along with New Castle County Paramedics, Delaware State Police Aviation and the New Castle County Special Ops / Technical Rescue Team for a reported trench rescue. VHC units arrived to find a construction worker stuck in a trench with his coworkers attempting to free him. Crews attempted to extricate the subject. Crews were withdrawn and the New Castle County Special Operations Team, assisted by the VHC and the Kent County Special Operations Team as well as numerous other agencies, began an extended extrication operation that lasted for a number of hours resulting in the recovery of the subject from the trench. The scene was turned over to OSHA and the Town of Middletown.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the subject.
