Cardiac Save Award Ceremony

Monday December 8 was our monthly board meeting and active crew meetings. The evening began with the recognition of members of Volunteer Hose and New Castle County Paramedic 5-D for their life saving efforts on August 27, 2014. The follow is an account of that event
On August 27, 2014 members of Volunteer Hose Company and New Caslte County Paramedic 5-D were dispatched at 1454 hours to a reported cardiac arrest an West Lake Street and North Scott Street in Middletown Delaware. Volunteer Hose A-1 immediately went en route, at 1456 hours and arrived on scene at 1458 hours. On arrival they found a 53 year old male who was unresponsive, in the cab of the backhoe. The crew of A-1 (David Digirolano, Taylor Jones, Paul Elvey Jr) began performing CPR in the cab of the backhoe while waiting for assistance to move the patient to the stretcher. At 1500 hours, VHC ambulance A-27 (Thomas Mixon, Francis Marker) as well Medic 5-D arrived on scene. The ambulance and paramedic crews assisted in moving the patient to the stretcher then to the ambulance while continuing CPR. The patient was loaded into the ambulance and CPR was continued while Advanced Life Support Intervention was administered. VHC Rescue 27 arrived on scene and was released as their assistance was not needed. Ambulance A-1, with Paramedic 5-D on board, went en route to Christiana Hospital at 1511 hours while continuing patient care and arrived at CER at 1533.
