At 0943, during the period of freezing rain, the New Castle County Fireboard alerted the VHC, along with New Castle County Paramedics, for a motor vehicle collision reported with entrapment. Units arrived to find a single vehicle that had gone off the roadway and struck a tree, coming to rest in a drainage ditch on the side of the roadway. The patient was not entangled, but was in a difficult position to remove from the vehicle due to the tree and standing water. Fire department personnel worked with the County Paramedics to safely remove the patient and transfer the patient to the ambulance. The scene was placed under control and turned over to DSP.
This was the third MVC and fourth fire call that the members of the VHC handled during a very busy morning in the county.
