911 Hangup Results in Working Alarm - Middletown, De

Wednesday July 1st at 15:59hrs, the New Castle County Communications Center recieved a 911 hangup call reporting a house on fire at 524 New Street in Middletown. Following protocol, the incident was dispatched as a Level 2: Unknown Structure Fire, where Stations 1&27 and Engine Company 4&24 were alerted to the incident. Engine 27-5 arrived on scene at 16:05hrs with no conditions evident. When the crew reached the door to the residence, they observed conditions inside and quickly placed a line in service to extinguish the fire in the kitchen which was beginning to expand. A quick knockdown of the fire resulted in minimal damage to the home beyond the room of origin. An additional engine was requested from Station 26 (Townsend), along with a BLS unit from Station 29 (Port Penn)to assist. Crews from Engine 4-5 (Odessa), Tower 27 and Rescue 27 completed checking for extension and overhaul of the room. The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office is investigating the cause.
