Assist Chesapeake City on Commercial Structure Fire w/ HAZMAT - Old Telegraph Road

Saturday afternoon, August 15th at 14:59hrs, Stations 1&27 were alerted for an engine company assist to Chesapeake City on a building fire on Old Telegraph Road in Cecil County. Crews arrived to find a large storage building well involved containing a significant amount of Chlorine. Firefighters from Engine 27-5 and Rescue 1 assisted with initial fire knock down and containment until the Cecil County HAZMAT team arrived on scene. Once on scene and further evaluation, a entry team of HAZMAT Technicians entered the structure along the C side and removed the bulk of the containers. Tower 27 and the Air Unit were requested to the scene as well. Once the containers were removed from the building, crews from assisting companies continued with exterior extinguishment due to the poor structural stability of the building. Crews from Middletown were on scene for 6 hours assisting.
