Vehicle Accident with Entrapment - North Broad Street & Route 301 (Frogtown Crossing)

Monday morning, December 28th at 03:03hrs, Stations 1&27 were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment at the above location. Fireboard advised responding units that the accident involved two tractor trailers. Volunteer Hose Company ambulance A-27 arrived shortly after dispatch and advised of heavy entrapment. Crews from Rescue 27 and 27-1 arrived moments after and began the extrication process, removing the driver of one of the tractor trailers in a short amount of time. The occupants of the second tractor trailer refused treatment. The injured driver was taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment of the injuries sustained. Due to the amount of diesel fuel on the roadway, HAZMAT 30 (Belvedere Fire Company) along with DNREC, were requested to the scene. Personnel from Volunteer Hose Company, Middletown Police, Belvedere and DNREC were on scene for over 4 hours. The following agencies were involved in the incident: Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, New Castle County Paramedics, Middletown Police, New Castle County Police, Delaware State Police, DNREC and the Belvedere Fire Company. The accident is currently under investigation.
