Field/Barn Fire - Green Giant Road
Thursday, September 3, 2015
Townsend was dispatched to a field fire on Green Giant Road near the Maryland Line. When they arrived, they advised that it was in Middletown's district and that they needed assistance. Shortly after 27-1 responded, Townsend's officer advised that a barn was also on fire. The dispatch for the barn fire brought additional equipment from Middletown and Townsend as well as Odessa, Port Penn, Smyrna, Clayton, & Galena.
Chief Bailey arrived and assumed command. The barn was completely destroyed so efforts were concentrated on stopping the burning wheat field. As crews began to contain the fire, the wind shifted and the fire damaged two vehicles and some hose. Crews adjusted their tactics and again contained the fire. Crews remained on scene for several hours as the piles of straw were pulled apart and the deep seated fire extinguished.
