Assist Cecilton on Working Chicken Barn Fires - Sassafrass Road
Thursday, September 3, 2015
Monday evening at 19:24hrs, Stations 1&27 were alerted to assist the Cecilton Fire Department on a working fire at the ISE America facility on Sassafrass Road. Cecilton's Chief was first to arrive and reported a 50'x500' structure fully involved with extension to adjacent buildings. Due to the high winds, the fire was rapidly progressing through the second structure. The response was upgraded several times throughout the incident, which eventually ended as a 4 alarm fire.
Tower 27 was assigned to the Delta side, laid 800' of supply line and set up on the Charlie/Delta section. The crew, along with crews from Odessa, Townsend, Port Penn and Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder of Newark worked multiple handlines and the aerial to stop the spread of the fire.
Rescue 27 was assigned to the Bravo side of the structure. The crews from the rescue, Engine 27-5 and Engine 1-6 worked along with Cecilton, Suddlersville and Elkton to contain the fire. Both engines assisted with shuttling loads of water to keep the tankers supplied.
Low water pressure, along with the high winds, made it a long night for all firefighters onscene. It wasn't until after midnight that crews were able to be released. The last units from Volunteer Hose returned after 3am.
