Wheat Field Fire - Middleneck Road & RT 301
Thursday, September 3, 2015
Wednesday afternoon around 13:30hrs, the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown responded to a wheat field fire on Middleneck Road, just off of route 301. A 25-30 acre area of wheat field burned, with winds making it difficult to stop and contain the fire. The Odessa, Townsend and Port Penn fire companies also assisted with the fire.
U.S. 301 was closed for several hours during the fire due to heavy smoke causing zero visability when driving on the heavily traveled road. The roadway was reopened around 17:00hrs.
