Friday morning, the Volunteer Hose Company, along with the Odessa Fire Company and Chesapeake City Fire Company were alerted for a house fire in the Chesapeake Meadows neighborhood near the sub-station. Within minutes of the dispatch, it was upgraded to a working alarm by the fireboard, adding Port Penn Fire Company, Delaware City Fire Company and the Townsend Fire Company.
1-7, from the sub-station, was the first unit to arrive onscene under command of Chief Bailey with heavy fire conditions in the garage area of the home extending to the rest of the house. The crew began an aggressive interior attack and was able to get a good knock down of the fire soon after arriving onscene. 27-5, responding from our main station arrived next and secured the hydrant line and assisted the first in crews with fire suppression efforts. Additional crews, as they arrived onscene, assisted with victim search, ground ladders to the structure and other various fireground tasks.
While crews were wrapping up from this incident, Odessa, Port Penn and Smyrna (cover up crew) handled several other alarms in district.
