Tuesday morning at 11:39hrs, the Volunteer Hose Company, along with Odessa, Townsend, Port Penn, Delaware City, Chesapeake City and the Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company of Newark were alerted for a house fire in the area of Brady Lane in the Wheatland community. The alarm had been upgraded to a working alarm immediately after the initial dispatch after reports of fire from the roof of the residence.
Engine 1-6, from the Churchtown Road station was the first unit to arrive onscene confirming fire from the roof. Crews encountered a fire in the attic of the residence and made an aggressive attack. Rescue 27, Tower 27, Engine 4 and Engine 29 were the next arriving units. Crews from the apparatus assisted the initial crews with fire attack and water supply. The crew from the tower handled the ventillation of the roof.
Additional crews handled salvage and overhaul tasks.
Fire department units were on scene for several hours assisting the fire marshals office and assisting the homeowner with closing up the residence.
