Thursday evening at 18:20hrs, the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, along with NCC Medic 5C and Trooper 4 were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment at the Summit Bridge. Additional reports to the 911 Center revealed that one of the vehicles was on fire, adding Engine 12 on the road. Engine 10 made the response as well.
Prior to emergency personnel arriving, several witnesses were able to pull the trapped occupants to safety from the burning vehicle. Crews extricated the driver of the second vehicle upon arrival. A total of 5 patients were transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Fire department units responding were B-1, B-27, A-27, Rescue 27, 27-1, 1-6, 10-5, 12-6, 6-6, NCC Medic 5C, NCC Medic 9B, ALS-21, ALS-30, Trooper 4, A-15 and A-24.
