Working Residential Fire - Old School House Road
Thursday, September 3, 2015
Friday morning at 09:38hrs., the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, Odessa, Townsend, Port Penn and Delaware City Fire Companies were alerted for a working house fire in the 600 block of Old School House Road. Chief Bailey arrived with heavy fire showing from the dwelling. Due to the area being one of the remaining non-hydrant areas, additional tankers were immediately requested, bringing units from Chesapeake City, Cecilton, Galena and Smyrna.
Rescue 27 arrived and dropped a 5" supply line from the end of the driveway into the scene. Engine 1-6 followed and provided tank water to the rescue until the water supply was established. Tower 27 set up in front of the structure, and Engine 27-5 reverse laid a second 5" supply line to a nearby pond located on the property. A draft was established to supply water to the tower ladder. The tankers supplied water to the Rescue and shuttled water to the fire scene.
Water supply was not an issue.
Crews remained on scene for several hours extinguishing the fire and completing overhaul. The Delaware State Fire Marshals office is investigating the cause.
